I read, with an increasingly quizzical eyebrow lift, that America's vice president (or president of vice, one can barely differentiate) has decided to pop over to Munich and talk absolute twaddle.

I am somewhat taken aback to hear that apparently, he, and many of his supporters believe everyone would choose to be American if they could. Not sure what he's been smoking (and lets face it, with this mob, the potential list is fairly long), but where this idea that America is so great that everyone wants to move there is wild. Without putting too fine a point on it, America is on my very short list of places I don't even want to visit, let alone move to.

I don't say this out of spite against the current....shall we say administration? The word administration suggests that there is some kind of coherent, well-ordered, reasonable group of people working hard in the background, so, granted at the moment that's a stretch, but it will do for this.

I have genuinely never wanted to go there. In fact, I have flat out refused to go there on a number of occasions. Any country that prizes the right to give absolute idiots access to high powered weaponry and let them use them on their citizenry - particularly, it seems, on their schoolkids - is not one I am interested in visiting. What they choose to do with their internal domestic affairs is nowt to do with me, and since I personally think it's plain nuts, I'll just stay away. That's a lot more respectful than showing up and then shouting the odds about how they have to change, in my not-so-humble opinion.

I have a similar opinion towards public beheadings and hangings. I think it's barbaric, and I think it is plain wrong. So I will not go to anywhere that thinks such behaviour has any place at all in what is meant to be a more "enlightened" age.

If I had grown up in either culture, I'd quite possibly not see any problems with it. But I didn't, so I do. My solution to a situation I cannot change? Stay as far away from it as possible.

Seriously though, this Vance bloke really needs to give his head a wobble. He thinks he got the 2IC job, when we can all see that it's Space Karen pulling the strings of the Tango Turd, while Sofa King there is just running around shouting his mouth off like a demented toddler.

This mob go on about free speech, chanting it over and over like a mantra. But they think "Free Speech" applies only to viewpoints that align with theirs. And that's not what it means at all. People can say whatever they like, hold any opinions they like. They should be able to defend those opinions however, without reverting to violence and inciting hatred. If they can't, they are demonstrably in the wrong, and have basically failed at being worth listening to.

I have no problem with others holding different opinions. It's fine. what I object to, is people who hold opinions that lead them to cause harm to others, and then for there to be no consequences to them for that harm they have caused. I firmly believe that those who set out to harm others should be held accountable - and it doesn't matter the language they speak, the country of their birth, the colour of their skin, the (real OR imagined) contents of their bank balance, or what they keep in their knickers.
